Mesothelioma Symptoms and Diagnosis |
| |
The problem with Mesothelioma Cancer is that it is very difficult to find out the early symptoms. Only after 30 to 40 years after exposure to asbestos you will know the effects of this deadly disease. Two of the most common symptoms of Mesothelioma Cancer are chest pain and difficulty in breathing. Some other symptoms are tremendous loss of weight, fever, cough, night sweats, lowered RBC count and swelling of the body parts.
The sooner Mesothelioma is diagnosed, the better. Mesothelioma Cancer is a disease which grows in stages. In the initial stages of the disease, the cancer cells are found in the lining of the abdominal cavity and in the lining of the chest cavity. But, during the later stages, the cancer cells spread into the heart, chest wall and other organs and tissues. The first step to diagnose Mesothelioma is through an X-Ray. By taking an X-Ray, we will be able to find out the fluid accumulation which causes the tumor. Various other tests such as thoracoscopy and Peritoneoscopy are performed and if any abnormal tissues are detected, a procedure called Biopsy is recommended by the doctors. After diagnosis, the next step would be to conclude on the size, location and growth of the cancer cells.
